December 4, 2015

LLC Deerns Marecon, the Russian joint venture between Marecon and Deerns Consulting Engineers, has been invited by Mr. Sergei Prikhodko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, to participate in the 20th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2016 (SPIEF). Irina Spekman, General Director of LLC Deerns Marecon, will represent the company during the Forum.

SPIEF was established in 1997 and is a leading international economic and business forum held annually in Russia. Since 2006 SPIEF is held under the patronage of the President of the Russian Federation. The Organising Committee of the SPIEF is chaired by the Minister for Economic Development of the Russian Federation, with input on the programme and activities coming from a community of major international and Russian business leaders.

Over the past five years the Forum has transformed into a leading global business event, attracting in 2015 more than 10,000 Russian and international participants from 120 countries, representing government and business leaders from around the world, joined by leading voices from academia, the media, and civil society.

The Forum gathers the world’s leading decision makers to identify and deliberate the key challenges facing emerging markets and growth economies, Russia and the world, and engage communities to find common purpose and establish frameworks to forge solutions.

The theme for SPIEF 2015 was ‘Time to Act: Shared Paths to Stability and Growth’.

The programme’s discussions covered four main topics:

  • GLOBAL ECONOMY: NEW CHALLENGES AND SHIFTING HORIZONS

  • RUSSIA: SEIZING THE OPPORTUNITIES

  • HUMAN CAPITAL AND TALENT DEVELOPMENT

  • DISRUPTORS: TRENDS AND TECHNOLOGIES

Events at this 2015’s Forum included Shanghai Cooperation Organisation(SCO) and BRICS business forums, the B20 Regional Consultation Forum, an Energy Club Summit, a Young Leaders Forum and a Media Summit. There was also a Valdai Club Session, the first of its kind to take place at SPIEF.

New formats such as SPIEF DEBATE were coupled with traditional business programme events, including panel discussions, briefings, television debates, seminars, country-specific round tables, business breakfasts, the Conversations with the Extraordinary series, the Global Energy Prize Award Ceremony and the Development Award Ceremony.

The SPIEF 2016 programme will aim to further improve the Forum’s environment and opportunities for business networking. The traditional formats and the events which take place in the margins of the Forum will be retained, including: the Russian Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Forum, the B20 Regional Consultation Forum, and the SCO and BRICS Business Forums.
